ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. André V. Ritter earned his dental degree from the Federal University of Santa Catarina School of Dentistry in 1987. He embarked on a diverse dental career, serving in various capacities, including private practice and community public health clinics. In 1997, he made the move to the United States and enrolled in the Operative Dentistry graduate program at the University of North Carolina (UNC). Successfully completing the program, he obtained a Certificate in Operative Dentistry and an MS in Dentistry degree.
Subsequently, Dr. Ritter's academic journey continued at UNC, where he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry in 2000. Over the years, he progressed in his career and attained the positions of Associate Professor in 2006 and Full Professor in 2012. Demonstrating exceptional leadership and expertise, he was entrusted with the roles of Graduate Program Director and Department Chair.
In recognition of his remarkable contributions to the field of restorative dentistry, Dr. Ritter was honored with the prestigious title of Thomas P. Hinman Distinguished Professor of Restorative Dentistry in 2016. As his career continued to thrive, he assumed the important role of Executive Dean of the UNC Adams School of Dentistry in January 2018.
In November 2019, Dr. Ritter embraced new opportunities and relocated to New York City. He began his tenure as a Professor and Chair of the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care at the New York University College of Dentistry.
Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Ritter's commitment to education and research led him to pursue further qualifications. He holds an MBA with specialization in Healthcare and a PhD in Dentistry, augmenting his expertise in the field.
Dr. Ritter's research interests are diverse, encompassing caries diagnosis and management, minimally invasive restorative dentistry, esthetics, dental adhesion, and composite resin applications.
Currently, he serves as a Professor in the Department of Cariology & Comprehensive Care at New York University, where he continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of dentistry through his academic and research pursuits.
